Temple B'nai Darom traces its roots to the "United Hebrews of Ocala", a small group of Jews who organized for religious purposes over 100 years ago. The former United Hebrews of Ocala Synagogue is an historic Carpenter Gothic building located at 729 N.E. 2nd Street, in the Tuscawilla Park Historic District of Ocala, Florida. It is among the oldest synagogue buildings still standing in the United States. In 1963 the congregation adopted the name "B'nai Darom" (meaning Children of the South) .
